What inspired the Aphaia Moon Dream T-Shirt 100% Vegan Organic Cotton | Unisex?

The Aphaia Moon Dream T-Shirt is inspired by the central crowning of Aphaia's temple pediment and the beautiful moonrises I enjoy every evening in the summer.

Although the practices and rituals of the Aphaia temple are not well known, many believe they had a close relationship with the moon.  

The Goddess Aphaia was only celebrated on Aegina Island in a temple overlooking the village of Agia Marina, where My Tiny Sanctuary's physical shop is today. Aphaia's story remains a mystery. 

The legend says she came from Crete, escaping the Minotaur's assault attempts. Fishermen then rescued her, but when they arrived on Aegina's Island shore, he too wanted to possess her. She then ran for safety and hid among the Hermes bushes. The temple was then built where she disappeared. There must be more to the story. One doesn't make a temple to honour a woman no one knows and who disappears just a few hours after reaching the island shore.

By drawing Aphaia Moon Dream, I wanted to honour the unknown and hidden part of Goddess Aphaia and somehow call forth our ancestral memory to teach us more about her dedication to life cycles—and moon cycles—fertility, agriculture, and life in general.
