The Jellyfish Spirit: Finding your light in the dark

Immersing into the Jellyfish Spirit Energy, you will notice that this animal has more to offer than its stingy reputation. It will help you dive deep in within without sensing the heaviness inner-work can sometimes present. Bringing a gentle light to what needs your attention to stay in your flow, to find your answers and solutions. It is an energetic booster, in the sense that where it stings it brings a new current of energy, not painful like the earthly animal touch, but stimulating the discomfort or the carrot just enough that you find a renewed motivation.

I Let the Flow Guide Me

While I can propel myself in different directions, I choose to let the current decide my path.

Most of the time, going with the flow grants me a beautiful life, though I remain mindful of which currents I follow to avoid being stranded on the shore.

I am here to remind you to follow your own flow, not the desires or actions of others, nor fleeting trends.

Tune in to your own stream: what is your soul calling for? What does your energy need? What is your heart seeking?

Practice:

The Somatic Self-Check If you feel pulled into a stream of action or ideas, pause to discern whether it is your own intuition calling or an external influence. This is vital, especially if you are sensitive and perceive much from others.

  1. Ground Yourself: Stand up and take a few deep breaths to connect with your entire body.
  2. Scan for Tension: Observe your physical state. Are your shoulders open and relaxed, or closed and tensed? Is your belly soft, or are there knots in your stomach?
  3. Test the Idea: Bring your specific idea or impulse to mind and observe the shift in sensation. Does your body subtly lean forward in invitation, or pull back in protection?
  4. Listen to Your Nervous System: Is your breath becoming faster, steady, or slower? Is your system agitated or calm? These subtle shifts are your truth-tellers. They reveal whether you are aligning with your own flow or drifting into someone else’s current."

I Find Light in the Dark

Many of my kind become bioluminescent when reaching the deep sea waters.

I am here to remind you that even in the darkest hours, there is room for light to emerge.

If you are currently navigating a dark night of the ego or persona, feeling stuck in a situation with no visible way out, ask me to enter your dreams and help you find the solution that already lies within you.

How? When you gently lay your head on your pillow, say aloud three times: 'Show me the solution is already there. Show me the solution is already there. Show me the solution is already there. Thank you, thank you, thank you.'

The answer may take a few days to appear. You might not even notice it unfolding, yet you will naturally take tiny steps every day that lead you toward change.

I Seed and Trust the Process

I do not give birth in the traditional sense; instead, I release my eggs or sperm into the water, entrusting their fate to the currents so they may meet and transform into a single being. My seed can wait years to connect with its match and create life, waiting for the right conditions and temperature.

You, too, may sometimes wait for what seems like ages to see changes in your life. However, remember that the current cannot carry you if you do not swim.

Before you simply wait, ask yourself: Am I making the moves to create this change?

Are you engaging in your healing, shifting your habits, or actively looking where your people might be?

Once you have taken these steps, then trust in the process.

At times, you will not see immediate returns on your efforts, but gently, you will begin to meet more like-minded souls. You may discover books, films, or documentaries that suddenly speak your language.

These are the signs that your environment is shifting.

You were meant to connect in a specific environment and at a specific time, but you must first leave the shore to meet the current.

Trust the process, but keep moving.

The Jellyish in Greek Mythology.

The Legend of Medusa: A Story of Beauty, Betrayal, and Protection

You might wonder why the myth of Medusa is connected to the jellyfish. The link is both visual and symbolic. When scientists first studied these marine creatures, they felt the myth of Medusa perfectly captured the undulating motion of the jellyfish’s trailing tentacles. Consequently, they named the creature medusa—a term that stuck, even as scientific classification evolved over the centuries.

So, let’s travel back in time to Ancient Greek tales and meet Medusa, exploring her story of violation, transformation, and ultimately, protection.

I must point out that the most known version of her story was written by a man during the early rise of patriarchy. The Roman poet Ovid, whose account is the most well-known, crafted a narrative that suited the mindset of the rulers of his era. I will share an alternative, older story with you at the end and you will see that the original had a totally different meaning.

Read both, and choose which one offers you inspiration 🙂

The Tragic Priestess: Ovid’s Version

In this telling, Medusa was a beautiful priestess of Athena, sworn to celibacy. Yet, Poseidon, god of the sea, desired her. Disregarding her vows, he violated her within the sacred walls of Athena’s temple.

Enraged by the desecration, Athena directed her wrath not at the powerful god, but at the victim. She cursed Medusa, transforming her glorious hair into writhing venomous snakes and damning her gaze: any living soul who looked her in the eye would instantly turn to stone.

Exiled to the farthest edges of the world, Medusa wandered as a terrifying outcast, unintentionally petrifying anyone who crossed her path.

Years later, King Polydectes, seeking to remove the hero Perseus, cunningly demanded Medusa’s head as a wedding gift, a task believed to be fatal. Guided by Athena and Hermes, Perseus was armed with a polished shield, winged sandals, and a sickle. He was instructed never to look at Medusa directly, but to navigate using only her reflection in the shield.

Finding Medusa sleeping, Perseus used the reflection to guide his hand and severed her head. From her blood sprang Pegasus, the winged horse, and the giant Chrysaor, both children of Poseidon.

Even in death, her power remained. Perseus used the head to turn his enemies to stone, eventually returning to save his mother by petrifying the king. He then presented the head to Athena, who mounted it upon her shield, the Aegis. There, the face of the victim became an eternal emblem of protection, a tragic guardian for the goddess who once cursed her.

That is the tale recounted by Ovid, and it remains the most widely known.

Yet, what feels deeply troubling to me, as a woman, is that a goddess of justice would punish a victim of rape. In this version, I see the seeds of a narrative that has ruled for far too long: the blaming of the victim. It was a story crafted to fit the needs of its time, portraying goddesses as irrational and women as weak—responsible for their own doomed fate, as if they needed to be monstrous from birth to stay safe.

I also sense an oral tradition that has shapeshifted through the ages. So, let us continue that shapeshifting. Let us view the story through a feminine lens and reimagine what truly happened in that temple.

  • Let us imagine that the serpents were not a punishment, but a protection.
  • Let us imagine that when Medusa was left terrified and vulnerable after the violation, Athena offered her a gift to keep any further harm at bay.
  • Let us imagine that this gift, shaped as a fierce defence mechanism, inadvertently became the very thing that isolated Medusa, tormenting her and depriving her of human connection.
  • Let us imagine she eventually grew as afraid of her own body as she was of others’ reactions to it.

In this light, the metaphor shifts profoundly. It becomes a story of how isolating ourselves after trauma can prevent us from feeling loved, turning a necessary shield into a self-imposed curse. The very thing meant to save us can, if held too tightly, become the barrier that keeps us from healing.

Now, let us move to yet another version, born some 700 years before Ovid’s time. Between the ancient truth of Hesiod, the tragedy of Ovid.

From Victim to Monster, and Then to Guardian

In Hesiod’s recounting, Medusa is not a beautiful woman, but a sea creature living at the edge of the world, who lies with Poseidon. She is mortal, and when beheaded by Perseus, her blood gives birth to Chrysaor and Pegasus. Frankly, the passage is so sparse that it reveals little about who Medusa truly was. Yet, there are subtle clues that would later lead to her transformation into a guardian and protector in subsequent tellings. We can assume an oral tradition was flowing across the Mediterranean, filling the silences of the text with deeper meaning.

Hesiod places her at the edge of the world, marking her as a creature of the boundary between the known and the unknown. Interestingly, despite later myths labeling her a monster, ancient Greeks frequently carved her face—the Gorgoneion—onto their temples, shields, and city gates. They did not do this to honor a villain, but to invoke protection. In the ancient mind, her terrifying gaze had the power to stare down evil spirits and ward off chaos from sacred spaces. This practice suggests that long before Ovid’s tale of victimhood, Medusa’s image was already revered as a shield. Her "monstrous" power was not seen as something to be destroyed, but as a force to be harnessed for safety.

Today, mythologists and scholars have begun to ask: "What if the 'monster' was actually a powerful goddess whose wildness threatened the new order of heroes?" When we strip away the later layers of victim-blaming, we see the original archetype emerging: a sovereign being of the deep, whose power was so absolute that it had to be tamed by the story of Perseus.

Finding Your Truth

This evolution matters because it gives us permission to choose which story we carry.

Do we carry Ovid’s narrative of shame and punishment? Or do we reclaim the older, deeper story of the Guardian?

In this sanctuary, we choose the latter. We see Medusa not as a victim who was broken, but as a force who was misunderstood. Like the jellyfish, she reminds us that being "dangerous" is often more about reputation than reality. Sometimes, what the world calls "monstrous" is simply a self-defence mechanism—a necessary, stinging boundary that arises when softer methods of protection are no longer enough.

It is a reminder that you do not need to be harmless to be good. You can be gentle, yet fiercely guarded. You can flow, yet possess the power to say: "This far, and no further."
